London Living: OCTOBER, What To Do, Eat and See!

9 October, 2014
After one long summer autumn has finally hit us, the nights have closed in, and Halloween is the next big date on the calendar.  Whilst many mourn summer, cosy coats, the return of Christmas Starbucks and Halloween parties make autumn one of the best times of the year.  Get your freak on for Halloween or eat yourself warm...

We've prepared a list of 7  great things to get up to this October in the big smoke:

1)  Take a Jack the Ripper tour in Whitechapel

Take a walk back in time to the Victorian East End and follow in the footsteps of London’s most iconic serial killer, Jack the Ripper.   Now that the nights are drawing in fast what better time to wrap up and take an eerie tour of Whitechapel and Shoreditch!

2)  Swingers Golf

Ever wanted to play crazy golf in London whilst getting drunk and eating pizza? Well now you can. The Institute of Competitive Socialising has transformed a Shoreditch warehouse into a crazy golf, street food pop up. (Not a swingers club.)  Pizza Pilgrims serve some of the best pizza in London on site and washed down with a cocktail or two from the bar this is not something to be missed!

3)  The Other Art Fair: 16-19th October

October see’s London Frieze, one of the world’s biggest contemporary art fairs, take over Regents Park.  However if you fancy something a little less pretentious and a lot more fun, head to the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane for The Other Art Fair.  Championing artists who are not represented by the major commercial galleries, the fair brings together some of the most unique and intriguing artists, with 2013 seeing the first ever live tattooing at an art fair.  Oh and Dirty Burger will be running a pop up food stand with Crate Brewery Bar providing the booze and the beats, so it would be rude not to really…

4)  Halloween Parties

If you’re not good with multiple choice this could be a tricky one, but you won’t be short on options for Halloween parties to attend this season so it will probably pay to start planning now!  From Regression Session's haunted forest out in Greenwich to Vampire themed balls at the Browns Courtroom there really is something for everyone.

5)  Check out 'London Month of The Dead'

This series of events on the theme of death runs throughout October, concluding on All Souls Day.  All of the events will take place in chapels in Brompton and Kensal Green cemetery, and the funds raised will go towards the ongoing upkeep of them both.

 6)  London Restaurant Festival

Running from the 8th until the 27th of October this event comprises of two elements, events and festival menus.  The festival menus are one off, cheaper than normal, whilst the events include talks and classes aiming to include as many different cuisines as possible.  Restaurants offering festival menus include STK and Babylon Roof Gardens.

7)   Urban Food Festival

This night street food market runs every Saturday from 5pm-12pm in Shoreditch until the 20th of December.  With gourmet food stands of every kind of food and drink you can possibly this is a no brainer for any foody/anyone who enjoys eating!

8) Tracy Emin- The Last Great Audience Is You

On from the 8th of October until the 6th of November, Emin's latest exhibition can be found in the Bermondsey space of the White Cube Gallery.  Featuring works of Gouache, bronze sculptures and neon writings this recent exhibition is, as ever, a reflection on the artist herself despite the title.

So go wild and make sure you've got the greatest Halloween outfit.
