Make The Most Of Your Final Year

21 October, 2014
Final year for many conjures up images of long nights spent in the library slaving away over your dissertation and studying for exams whilst leaving your carefree first and second year self firmly in the past.

It doesn’t have to be like this! You can still enjoy yourself and have some fun in your university city. Here are some simple tips on how to make the most of your final year;

1. Join a New Society

Nowhere else will you have the opportunity to join so many varied societies than at University. There are probably many that you didn’t know even existed, so take a look at your university website and browse the range of societies. Whether it’s a Zombie Apocalypse or Chocolate society there will be something that sounds interesting.  Go ahead and join one, you might be surprised at how much you enjoy it and it can be a great break from work!

2. Have an alternative night out

Bored of going to the same club nights every week? Check out some different areas in your university city. There will be numerous open mic nights and live bands playing in a host of venues and you might even discover an up and coming band. If music isn’t really your scene there are other alternatives such as a comedy night or even a roller disco. The possibilities are endless!

 3. Make the most of your student discount

This is the last year you will be able to claim your student discount so make the most of it! Your student discount isn’t only useful for textbooks; students often get reduced travel and cinema tickets or great value deals at restaurants and different shops. When you’re earning next year you will miss this perk of student life!

 4. Be a tourist

When you graduate you don’t want to suddenly realise you missed out on a number of amazing things your university city has to offer. Escape the student bubble and go to tourist areas such as the museum or art gallery (often free). You will end up appreciating your university city a lot more.

 5. Write a bucket list

Make a list of all the things you want to do before you graduate and pin it up on your noticeboard. If you’re stuck on where to start consider the above tips. Writing a bucket list will ensure you are pro-active in your final year and who doesn’t enjoy the satisfaction of ticking things off a list!

All these activities can be a welcome break from studying and when you look back on your final year you will be able to smile and remember that it wasn't all spent in the library!!
