When our partnership began in 2018, Octopus Energy was a rapidly growing energy start up and faced significant recruitment challenges. They needed to quickly expand their customer service team but lacked the internal processes and expertise for high-volume hiring without compromising quality.

Their rapid growth created a need to scale efficiently while maintaining high standards, requiring a solution to attract and retain top talent aligned with their values and culture. As the partnership evolved the need to scale and pivot quickly to accommodate an ever-growing customer base, meant scaling fast in different locations, duel-languages, and an evolving employment landscape.

Solution

Initially, we implemented an innovative recruitment strategy that included weekly structured group assessments for a fun and inclusive candidate experience. We tailored the recruitment process to align with Octopus Energy's values, focusing on finding the best job fit. This approach aimed to reduce attrition rates and increase job satisfaction among new hires. As the business and customer base has grown, so have our recruitment processes - we work iteratively to ensure we pivot and respond quickly to changes in candidate behaviour, market shifts, and expectations.

Results

Our partnership with Octopus Energy has delivered impressive results in support of their growth plans while maintaining high-quality hires. In Q1 2023, we hired 15% of their total annual hiring goal, putting them ahead of schedule in meeting their headcount forecast. The structured group assessments have allowed us to effectively identified candidates with the necessary skills and alignment with Octopus Energy's culture.

We continue to meet and maintain a high standard of delivery, whilst navigating new challenges ranging from, gen-z behavioural shifts, technological advances, and global and economic nuances.
